Taking a little time

Today I did something most people think of doing or want to do but just never get around to.  I took the day off and took my very healthy seven year old son out school just because I could.  He was supposed to have a field trip to a local Arts Centre for an interpretive dance program, but that is just not his style.  My husband and I agreed that it could just be a great day to get started on some Christmas crafts and in general be a well deserved Mommy and Me day.

We planned this day out for over a week and it was so much fun.  I transformed our basement family room into craft central complete with paint, glitter, fabric and everything else that gives my darling husband hives.

Here is the first project that we completed.  Many thanks to Sarah over at Thrifty Decor Chick for the fabulous idea that she gave us a couple of years ago.  You can find her tutorial if you follow the link.  Thanks to my very healthy stash of fabrics I only needed purchase the styrofoam cones and I even had a coupon for the large one.

Here is the finished Santa and Elf hats.  My little guy, forever known as Peanut made the pom poms himself and planned out the elf.  He was very proud of how they turned out and couldn't wait for his brother to get home to show of his skills.

Next came another stash buster and a total throwback to being 10 years old and making my Mom a Christmas present at school.  I remember it took what seems now to be days at school to make a fabric Christmas tree for my Mom.  I was so proud of it…funny thing is my Mom cannot remember the tree or where she ever put it.  I guess that says a lot about my crafting abilities all those years ago.

Peanut and I set to work cutting all the little pieces with pinking shears and then he so patiently glued them all on.

We were almost done when his big brother came home from school and made one for himself.  The finished trees are beautiful, they will look great when we start decorating for Christmas.

I am so happy with how this day of playing hooky from school turned out.  So many beautiful projects for our Christmas but most of all time spent with my son.  Hopefully he will have as many great memories as I do of this day.

…and so it begins

Well hello out there and welcome to my very first post.  Why is it so hard to do something that seems so right in your head?  I have wanted to start this blog for several years and just did not have the courage to do it.  Today I came home from work and said that today was the day.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself now that you are here.  My name is Lisa and I live in Southern Ontario, Canada.  I have been married to the most loving and patient man for 10 years he is the love of my life and my best friend.  I am the mother of two beautiful and super smart sons as well.  When I say super, I mean the crazy super kind of smart.  You will get to know them soon as they are a big part of my quilting.

My boys have definite opinions about my quilts and are often my go to when I am stuck.  I have dragged them from fabric stores and quilt shops all over Ontario and they never seem to complain.  I keep telling myself that I am raising good husbands who will one day appreciate their wives and their hobbies…well at least that works until we can get to a Timmies!!

I have been quilting for a little over 10 years and am completely addicted to this amazing craft and everything that comes with it.

I hope you enjoy my quilts, thanks for taking the time to drop in!!
